چکیده

Hybrid scanners, which enable the performance of single photon emission tomography (SPECT) and X-ray computerized tomography (CT) in one procedure, have considerable potential as an all-rounder in the nuclear medicine departments. However, challenges remain in validating the accuracy of such hybrid systems. In this paper, a systematic validation method with minimum user interaction is proposed, which has been successfully used on a data-set from a SPECT/Spiral-CT hybrid camera. This method focuses on measuring the distance between the centers of gravity of the SPECT hot spot and its counterpart in the CT image. A novel adaptive threshold method is proposed to automatically segment SPECT hot spots, while the corresponding CT structures are segmented by the semi-automatic random walk method, based on a fast multigrid solver. Accuracy and reproducibility of the validation method have been confirmed by experiments with 21 clinical data-sets.

Performance comparison of four commercial GE discovery PET/CT scanners: A monte carlo study using GATE

Combined PET/CT scanners now play a major role in medicine for in vivo imaging in oncology, cardiology, neurology, and psychiatry. As the performance of a scanner depends not only on the scintillating material but also on the scanner design, with regards to the advent of newer scanners, there is a need to optimize acquisition protocols as well as to compare scanner ...

Computer-aided evaluation of anatomical accuracy of image fusion between X-ray CT and SPECT

Hybrid scanners, which enable the performance of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and X-ray computed tomography (CT) in one imaging session, have considerable diagnostic potential. However, evaluating the anatomical accuracy of image fusion inherent to these systems remains a challenge. This paper proposes a method for evaluating this variable with minimum user interaction. It...

Validation of computed tomography-based attenuation correction of deviation between theoretical and actual values for four computed tomography scanners

Objective: In this study, we aimed to validate the accuracy of computed tomography-based attenuation correction (CTAC) using the bilinear scaling method. Methods: The measured attenuation coefficient (μm) was compared to a theoretical attenuation coefficient (μt ) using four different CT scanners and an RMI 467 phantom. The effective energy of the CT beam X-rays was calculated, using the aluminu...

Image registration accuracy of an in-house developed patient transport system for PET/CT+MR and SPECT+CT imaging.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the registration accuracy of a newly developed patient shuttle system that can integrate different scanners by patient transfer without repositioning for 'hardware'-based image fusion. We aimed to assess the registration accuracy of image fusion in two different settings: a trimodality PET/CT+MR system and a SPECT+CT system. MATERIALS AND MET...
